Work Description/Tasks

The Contractor will be assigned with the function of Senior Power Engineer, to the Power and Energy Conversion Division, Electrical Engineering Department, Directorate of Technical and Quality Management.

Under the responsibility of the Head of the Power Systems Section, the contractor will be responsible for technical support to ESA projects and technology developments in the field of power systems for space applications. The contractor’s duties will include in particular:

  • providing specialist support to projects in the domain of power systems architecture, specification, performance definition, implementation and verification;
  • performing system analysis, trade-offs and simulations as needed for assessing the power system performance and interactions with the other spacecraft systems;
  • performing laboratory breadboarding and testing as needed;
  • contributing to project design reviews;
  • participating in and supporting feasibility and project definition studies for future Agency programmes;
  • supporting R&D/Technology development contracts with European Space Industry.

Specific Qualification Requirements:

Applicants should hold a University degree or equivalent in electrical or electronic engineering and must have several years of experience in the definition and design of spacecraft power system concepts, power management, power regulators, power distribution and protection.

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • a power electronics background and circuit design analysis capability;
  • experience with spacecraft power system design, implementation and testing;
  • a good knowledge in energy storage and solar generator concepts and technologies.

Applicants should have the ability to work autonomously as well as in a team environment, have good interpersonal skills and a proven capability to convey technical matters both written and orally in a clear and precise manner. They should have a proactive attitude to solving problems and interest for innovative technologies.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required. Knowledge of another Member State language is an asset
